Obituary of Cornelia Lindeque

Cornelia (Nelie) Lindeque, 70, of Hilton Head Island, passed away on April 15th, 2024 after a battle with cancer. She passed peacefully in the comfort of her favorite room in her home on ‘her island’.

Nelie was born on May 28, 1953, to Ouma en Oupa Pretorius in Koster, South Africa. After matriculating from Christiana High School in Christiana, Transvaal, Nelie went on to study Pharmacy at the University of Potchefstroom in South Africa. She met the love of her life, Petrus (Peet) Lindeque, in her first year, 1971, and has never backed down from a challenge since. Peet and Nelie wed on Feb 1, 1975, and had two beautiful daughters, Dominic and Inge.

Nelie worked locum tenens for the first few years while she and Peet lived in Pullenshope. They moved to Middleburg in 1980 where Peet co-owned three pharmacies and Nelie worked part time while raising their girls. In 1987 the family moved to Pietermaritzburg where Peet and Nelie owned Fields Pharmacy and would remain until 2000 at which time they emigrated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Peet and Nelie retired to ‘her island’ in 2023 and Nelie couldn’t be happier. She loved Hilton Head Island and spending time with her soul mate, daughters and sons-in-law, Brian Oloizia and Steve Plautz, and grandchildren, Gavin, Mika, and Anya.

Nelie loved traveling and being surrounded by nature. She had an adventurous soul that didn’t shy away from any challenge no matter how daunting. She enjoyed skiing, SCUBA diving (after some serious convincing), sight seeing, car trips with her besties, Jackie and Frannie Korb, and reading her book while sunbathing on an exotic beach overlooking the clear blue ocean.

Nelie was an avid seamstress and knitter most of her life creating one-of-a-kind items for her family and friends. She fell in love with quilting after moving the the United States and flourished in her new hobby. She won first place at the Wisconsin State Fair for one of her masterpieces. Her quilts live on in many homes, but especially those of her daughters as she made unique quilts for each of her grandchildren. Nelie was a true artist who blessed those she loved with one-of-a-kind pieces that have her love in every stitch.

Nelie is survived by Petrus, Dominic, Inge, Brian, Steve, Gavin, Mika, Anya
